Buggie turns 6. {Pretty Garden Party}

This past weekend my little Buggie turned 6. 

She kept telling me leading up to it "Momma, do not cry." 

She knows me so well.

But I held my own and did not shed a tear.

But what I did do was put together a sweet girlie party just like she asked for.

Of course I teamed up with my girlie Kori from Paper and Pigtails.

 Who just came out with a beautiful line made from her hand drawn illustrations.

Her take on a girlie garden theme was a beautiful inspiration. 

As I shared, I made some crepe flowers large and small for the table.

I also made a few cake stands with a couple old candle sticks I had and sprayed painted gold.

One thing that is ALWAYS a request for parties in our family are Oreo Pops.

And to make them have just a little sparkle I took some Wiltons gold dust and brushed them.

 

Another request Avery had was for powdered doughnuts.

I bought two bags of sweet sixteen one powder and on cinnamon sugar.

Then I took the bag of cinnamon ones added more gold dust and shook them to cover...

I would say in total it was around $80 for the whole table and food, not bad especially since it was all gone at the end.

And we decided for favors to give flower pots with some soil and seeds. Which the pots I got in the Target dollar bin, seeds were .99 each and the soil was $3.99 for a HUGE bag. So just $2 for each.

And EVERY kid was so excited to take them home.

One other thing we have done for the past three birthdays for Buggie is have a face painter.

And we have been lucky to have Carolina the Doodler for the last two of them.

She is AMAZING.

I highly recommend her for parties and other events.

The birthday girl was so happy which made us happy.

DIY Mini Crepe Flowers

I am alive, just been doin me and not blogging much.

I want to get back into it, hoping Buggie birthday is the catalyst. 

So why not another little DIY to help me along?!

I needed some mini crepe flowers to go on Buggies party table, so here is my little tutorial for them.

What you need:

- crepe paper {you can you tissue paper or streamers}

- Paper doilies

- Sticks {you could use toothpicks}

- a little teardrop cut out as a template

- scissors

- hot glue

First cut four thin strips in the doily. 

Then hot glue them to one end and bend them in.

Using the paper template cut out little thumb nail shaped petals.  If using crepe paper gently pull them across the top, then hot glue them at the bottom and make little folded petals.

Then hot glue them around the doily center, layering as you go. Remember you are making flowers and  perfection is not needed...

They will make beautiful little bunches of flowers for her table...

I made larger versions to use as well, those are not on sticks.  And I just used a whole doily cut into strips. They will go great with the other large crepe flowers I have made.

DIY Crepe Paper Flowers

Its already that time of the year again for us, birthday party planning. 

Buggie is going to be 6, this month, 6 people.

She was just 3 when I started this blog, time is just slipping by.

So this year "we" could not decided on a theme, it went from Barbie to Spy Kids to Strawberry Shortcake with in a span of 15 minutes.  So to reign her in, I purposed that I just make it "super pretty". And she actually AGREED!

I had pinned these giant paper flowers, and knew I wanted to make them.  I adapted them to how I wanted to use them and make them.

Here is what I used:

- Crepe Paper {I bought this}

- A tear dropped shaped template, the one I made was 7 1/2 long and 4 1/2 at its widest point

- Hot glue gun

- Scissors

- A pencil 

- Floral tape

First thing I did was cut between 12 - 18 petals, I wanted the flowers to be different sizes {as noted in the tutorial I used to base my flowers off of, cut the paper on the vertical}

Then pulling slightly at the edges, bring the petals up like in a cupping movement.  Then take a pencil and curl the top out in the opposite direction you cupped it in.

Then to start roll on petal into itself and hot glue the bottom to create a center.

Then start layering. The biggest difference with what i did and the original tutorial was I did not use the heart shaped petals.  I found them to be too heavy and did not shape the way I wanted.

Just keep layering and gluing as you go to get the fullness of the flower.  Then to secure it a little floral tape around the bottom.

I would say you can get around three to four {depending how big you make the flowers} per roll of crepe paper.  I have BIG plans for the flowers once they are all made.  

Super excited to see it all come together.

Bubble Gum Flowers DIY {plus an Easter FREEBIE!}

I am knee deep in 5th birthday party prep for Buggie right now.

5 years old, crazy how fast the time has flown by.

So we have had this little rule, no gum until you are 5.

I know kinda of silly but at some point I had picked the age and we stuck with it.

Now it is this HUGE right of passage that she is so STOKED about.

{sidenote: thinking of uping it to 20 for her brother, just sayin the kid's an animal}

Without giving away too much about her party I made these the other day and could not resist sharing.

What you will need:

- Gum {I bought the old school gum ball machine size tub and then some larger individual ones from Party City}

- Balloon stems with cups {which I now have 115 leftover, so if want some just holla, or Buggie will have these at every event for the next 10 yrs.}

- Clingwrap

- Twine or twistie ties.

- Small bowl

- Scissors

- Place some cling wrap in the bowl and then add a large gumball and 7 small ones.

- Take your stem and place in the center and then bring up the cling wrap tight around the gum.

- Lotion hands daily, oops thats a reminder for me after seeing this picture, EEK.

- Tie the up tight, cut the excess cling wrap off, and there you have gumball flowers!

They are so stinkin cute. Like for real, gumballs make me smile anyways but to see them like this just makes me plain ole happy.
