What We ate Wednesday {Not Yo Grandmamas BLT}

***OK SO THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO POST TOMORROW, OH MAN***

This post really should be titled "What I ate Wednesday" since I eat at least one tomato sandwich a day. And sometimes two. There I said it, I love me some tomato sandwiches.

To make things more interesting I have been changing them up. And here is what I call
"Not Yo Grandmamas BLT"

What you will need:
- Red and yellow tomato {honestly you can just do red, the yellow is more for the effect, ha}
- Prosciutto {I like mine with three slices}
- Arugula
- Mayo
- Sriracha {if you do not know what Sriracha is, get to know, trust me mkay. It is sold at most food stores and even Target, you will find it in the asian food section.
Now get you some spicy asian ketchup!}
- Bread

Preheat the oven to 350, place your prosciutto on a cookie sheet and bake for 12 to 14 mins. It will start to curl up and and crisp. While that is cooking mix your mayo and sriracha together. Now this part is completely personal. I like mine spicy so I will use more of the sriracha, then most. Add a little stir, taste, then you can always add more. Then right before the prosciutto is about to come out, toast your bread. Now when choosing the right bread to toast, I judge it on wether is tears up the bottom of my mouth. The more tearing the better :)

Then assemble.

Smoosh and cut.

Yep, it's a two napkiner.
Enjoy!

A Pinterest Project {Plates}

I was late to the Pinterest party.
Really late.
But its not my fault, ok it is.
I have to admit I just did not get it.
Not one bit of the hype.
Then someone sent me an invite and what's the saying
"The rest is history."

Now Monday's are going to be dedicated as "A Pinterest Project".

This weekend when pinning, I came across this image...

And I fell hard for it.

While my mind was spinning about plans to go to goodwill and start gathering, I had a hand to the forehead moment, I freaking have a box FULL of plates from Hub's grandmother just chillin in a closet!!

I could not get up the stairs fast enough. And when I was done unwrapping I had two beautiful stacks of hidden jewels sitting in front of me.

Our entry has been in desperate need of some sprucing.
And after a quick convincing to Hubs, I was off to Joanns to purchase some plate hangers.

We sat and picked out our favorites {I could have put every single one up but that would not fly with Hubs, but I might just add one every once in a while and pray Hubs does not notice, Hubs just forget you read that, mkay.}

They add a touch of color and a bit of whimsy to our barren entryway.

Next I will be adding a few nic nacs to the table to tie together.

Look what I did.

So there you go the first of many "A Pinterest Project".
Happy pinning!

Food Art

A few weeks ago, Lindsay came up with the best hashtag
ever created.
#weplaywithourfood

And ever since then a little community of Momma's wanting to make fun unique plates of food has joined forces on Instagram.

I know we are not inventing the wheel and that there are some Mommas with MAD skills out in the blog-o-sphere, ie Meet the Dubiens.
But this group is super fun cause we get to see and inspire one another.

Here are my contributions so far...

{Mr Robot-o-wich}

{Flower Power}

{Somewhere Over the Pancake Rainbow}

{Batterfly}

{The Bagel Digger}

{Rapunzel Rapunzel let Down your Cheese}

Yes my crowning moment was braiding string cheese to resemble Rapunzels hair.

If you decided to join the fun, which I hope you do, it comes with a warning "Add at least another half an hour to your grocery time." Because you will find yourself picking everything up and thing to yourself "Know what can I make this into..."

Make it fun!

What we ate Wednesday {Grilled Romaine and Flank Steak Salad with Balsamic Onion Bacon Dressing}

This recipe is adapted from my StepMommie's without actually having the recipe, so
not sure what is true to hers or not, haha!
But its super easy and SOOOOO tasty.

What you will need:
- Heads of romaine, you will use half per person.
- Flank steak
- 7 slices bacon cooked and crumbled
- blue cheese
- garlic
- small red onion {diced}
- balsamic glaze
- tomato
- olive oil
- a beer

Season your steak with salt and pepper, marinate with 2 tbsp garlic, 2 tbsp olive oil, and the beer. I would let sit on the corner for an hour.

Then grill your steaks 7 mins per side.

While you grill the steaks, trim the tops of the romaine and half them. Brush with olive oil and salt and pepper. Once the steak is done, grill the romaine until it gets a little char and welts a bit.

While the grilling is happening, in a small non stick pan cook the onion over medium high heat until it starts to brown.

Add half the bacon and 2 tbsp of the balsamic glaze. Cook for about 4 minutes. then right before serving add the rest of the bacon. Add more glaze if necessary.

To plate place a piece of the romaine, some sliced steak, blue cheese and the dressing. To add a little color some diced tomato on the side.

ENJOY!

Day one down.

We did it.
I mean, she did it.
First day of kindergarten a success!

She has been asking for butterfly pancake so for some time now, I thought yesterday morning was the perfect time to give her this creation.

Then it was outside for the mandatory first day of school shoots...

On the way to school she chatted it up with my parents, all way time telling them how excited she was...

Then came pick up and we were met with this smile...

I had made these for her afternoon snack, thinking the whole time, so cute apple cupcakes on the first day. Then when I showed her she had this look like "Cute, but the heck is up with the apple?!" Oh then I had to try to explain the connection between an apple and school...BAHAHA

This morning she was a little weepy, and had a few tears. But while wiping them away she told me "Mommy these are not sad tears, they are happy ones cause I love school." She really is the sweetest...

Individual Smoothies in Mason Jars.

I saw this idea floating around the web and had to try it myself.
See my kids are HUGE smoothie drinkers.
Buggie is not much of a breakfast kid, so it really help get something in her belly.
Any who.
You will need a blender.
Mason Jars

Your smoothie ingredients. Here is what I use...

I have never measured when making smoothies, just eye ball it.

Unscrew the bottom of the blender...

Then screw on the mason jar...

And blend.

I have to say its a easy way to make smoothies for individual tastes....
BUT honestly beyond that not REALLY sure on the benefit, other then its cute!
And lets be honest cute goes a loooong way, when you are a bored SAHM.

I can imagine making party drinks would come in handy for it.

Easy Peasy.

Now I am off to send my little baby girl to kindergarten
*GULP*

Oh and for some reason the winner of the mini pie maker never responded, for the shame. So Random.org went back to work and choose....

A week thru Iphone pics...

Monday brought its fair share of challenges right off the bat.
Bean in time out for the first time that day, at 8:30am
To say we were not friends that day was an understatement.
But we hugged it out and we are cool now...

Buggies stash for back to school. Complete with her MANDATORY Twinkle Toes, UGH. But I know I would have wanted them too at her age...

Everyday, I come into the living room and they are in some kid of pretzel shape on the floor...

I love watching them playing together, each day it gets more and more involved. Here Buggie was swaddling her "baby"...

After a week and the beach, I came home more blonde and tan then all summer long...

Happy kitchen colors...

Making new recipes, Have I told you how much I love to cook for my family?!

Oh and homemade peach cobbler for dessert, please and thank you!

Yesterday was jammed pack, first we surprised the kiddies and took them to Typhoon Lagoon...

And for some reason Disney finds it ok to sell mini fresh doughnuts at a place where people are walking around in bathing suits. Lets just say they were DELICIOUS, which made me totally forgot about my skinny fat situation I had going on...

Bean and his Nemo bucket...

Buggie said it was the best surprise ever {PS she says this at every surprise *wink*}

Then last night we headed to meet Buggies kindergarten teacher...

Finding her cubbie...

Her best bud is in her class, they have known each other since 3 mnths old!

Then this morning this happened...he is such a dude.

Lastly this picture is actually from last week. But I wanted to share. It makes my heart sing every time I look at it. I pray everyday that their love for each other grows more and more each and everyday...
